The Book of Psalms Psalm 84

Douay-Rheims · Challoner revision

Challoner’s heading

Benedixisti, Domine.

Psalm 84 in the Vulgate numbering this edition follows; Psalm 85 in the Hebrew numbering of most modern Bibles.

1Unto the end, for the sons of Core, a psalm. 2Lord, thou hast blessed thy land: thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob. 3Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people: thou hast covered all their sins. 4Thou hast mitigated all thy anger: thou hast turned away from the wrath of thy indignation. 5Convert us, O God our saviour: and turn off thy anger from us. 6Wilt thou be angry with us for ever: or wilt thou extend thy wrath from generation to generation? 7Thou wilt turn, O God, and bring us to life: and thy people shall rejoice in thee. 8Shew us, O Lord, thy mercy; and grant us thy salvation. 9I will hear what the Lord God will speak in me: for he will speak peace unto his people: And unto his saints: and unto them that are converted to the heart. 10Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him: that glory may dwell in our land. 11Mercy and truth have met each other: justice and peace have kissed. 12Truth is sprung out of the earth: and justice hath looked down from heaven. 13For the Lord will give goodness: and our earth shall yield her fruit. 14Justice shall walk before him: and shall set his steps in the way.
Psalm 84 of 150

Text: the Douay-Rheims Bible in Bishop Challoner’s revision, public domain, from Project Gutenberg ebook 8300, set unaltered — 150 psalms and 2,528 verses, checked for gaps. Challoner’s own notes are left out, as in the gospels; the summary at the head of each psalm is his and is labelled as his. Psalms are numbered as in the Latin Vulgate, which differs by one from the Hebrew numbering of most modern Bibles for most of the book; each psalm gives both.
